The late afternoon sun filtered through the blinds of their living room, casting warm, slatted patterns over the couch where Lucas and Becca sat together. Lucas toyed with a small remote in his hand, turning it over and feeling its weight. The anticipation in the room was thick and palpable, as Becca shifted slightly beside him, her eyes glinting with curiosity and a hint of challenge.
